The Rev. Francis Acquah
International Ph.D Program

I am pursuing a Ph.D. course in theology with a focus on Christian-Muslim Relations.

This academic program delves into critical issues of interfaith relations, which I believe will better equip me to understand my own faith as well as that of other faith traditions, especially Islam. This has become more pertinent since the emergence of religious extremism in the early 1980s in Ghana. Until this time, faith communities in Ghana, especially Muslims and Christians, have been in peaceful co-existence, but later developments have posed a serious threat to this harmonious relationship. The situation calls for a response in addressing this threat to societal peace, hence my decision to pursue this program.

I think this program also provides the needed academic and practical tools for me as a religious leader to seek and facilitate co-operation among diverse faith communities in my country in addressing problems facing our common humanity.
