About the Seminary

Carl Dudley

Professor of Church and Community;
faculty emeritus in residence

What I love about Hartford Seminary is standing together on the edge of tomorrow. We share this cutting edge in our continuing dialogue of Muslim-Christian relations; in our national research of religious trends in congregations of every faith community; in programs for leadership of Black Church, Hispanic Ministry, and Women’s Spirituality; and in Masters level courses that together strengthen lay leaders and provide foundations for denominational ordination and other graduate degrees.  No other seminary even comes close to that degree of diversity in my experiences of real time and virtual classrooms.  As members of the faculty, each grounded in a classic academic discipline, we are stretched by an amazing variety of students to examine how each faith group keeps its vitality in this exciting and sometimes threatening world.  More than helping them care for their own, I am most excited when these young leaders help their faith communities to make a significant impact among the people of their neighborhoods, and in a physically and spiritually hungry world.
