course surveys ways in which the pastoral-counseling encounter
is affected when the counselor and the client are from
different cultures. Topics include: cultural “world
views” and their implications for counseling, ethnic and
racial identity development, practical strategies for
counseling with members of specific ethnic populations,
cultural variations in help-seeking attitudes, assessment of
multicultural competencies, learning from
indigenous/traditional models of intervention, and
multicultural implications for assessment and diagnosis,
culture and families, and culture and careers.
