 Contemporary Islam: Reform and Discontent (TH-664)
Winter/Spring 2006

This course looks at contemporary efforts to reform Islam, focusing on Shariah and women’s rights. It will look at ideas of mainstream Islamic movements and the emergence of liberal Islam in Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey and Morocco. It will also examine the reformist ideas of the lecturer, and explore the future of Islam through interactive, visionary workshops.
