This
course will explore the nature of spirituality and its
relevance to contemporary life and ministry by means of a
critical examination of classic Western spiritual literature,
including forms of monasticism, certain of the mystics, and
later authors from both Protestant and Roman Catholic circles.
The main issue to be explored is how people are shaped into
and conformed to Christ's image through spiritual disciplines,
particularly as exemplified in the writing and reading of
classic Western spiritual literature. The course will be
attentive to methodologies of the discipline of spirituality,
particularly exploring applications for one’s personal
life.
