The Formative Period of Shi’i Thought: Debates and Discussions

Shi'i scholars April 28 combined

Two distinguished scholars — one from the University of Chicago and one from Bard College — will join us for a program sponsored by the Imam Ali Chair for Shi’i Studies and Dialogue Among Islamic Legal Schools.

Mohammad Sagha, a Ph.D. student in Islamic History and Civilization at the University of Chicago, will speak on “Early Shi’i Discourse on Religious Leadership: Penitence, Revolution and Eschatology after Imam Husayn.”

Prof. Tehseen Thaver, Assistant Professor of Religion at Bard College, will discuss “Shi’i Tafsir Traditions in Early Islam.”
