Interested
in the Doctor of Ministry Degree but unsure that you’re ready to
commit to the full program? Concerned about returning to
school after years away from the classroom? Just too busy to take on
any significant additional commitments?
Enroll
in our new Professional Ministries Study Program
In
this program, you choose four courses that reflect the breadth of a
Hartford Seminary education You
can attend class weekly, every three weeks or complete a course in
one week, at your convenience.
Credits earned
in this program can be counted toward the D.Min. if you later decide
to pursue a D.Min. and are admitted to the program.
What
is the Professional Ministries Study
Program?
The Professional
Ministries Study Program is an educational option for clergy, rabbis,
imams and other religious leaders who seek to reflect on their
practice of ministry. Students in the program will work with their
academic advisor to choose four courses suited to their individual
educational objectives.
All credits earned
in the program can be counted toward the D.Min. degree if a student
later decides to pursue that objective and is admitted to the D.Min.
program.
Application
and Admission
The Professional
Ministries Study Program
is open to persons who have three years of ministry experience after
the completion of the Master of Divinity degree or its educational
equivalent (equivalency is understood to mean three years of
post-baccalaureate theological study at accredited graduate
institutions).
Applications for
the program may be submitted at any time during the year.
Program
of Study
Each student
must successfully complete 12 credits (typically 4 courses). These
credits must be taken in four different topic areas. These include:
- Scripture
- Theology
- Ethics
- Spirituality,
liturgy, and worship
- Religion
and society
- History
- Arts of
ministry
- Dialogue
Hartford
Seminary requires that at least 6 credits in the Professional
Ministries Study Program be taken in courses taught in the classroom
on the Hartford Seminary campus. This allows for up to half of the
credits required for this program to be taken in a combination of
the following formats: off-site courses, on-line courses, and travel
seminars.
