Our Hartford
Institute for Religion Research enjoys a long-standing national
reputation for excellence and innovation in the study of religion,
particularly congregational studies.
We also have
long enjoyed a significant international reputation through the
work of the Macdonald Center for the Study of Islam and
Christian-Muslim Relations and its editing of The Muslim World journal.
A
Special Responsibility
Our
influence is a special responsibility for us. Understanding that
our constituency is unusually broad – since it includes students
from other schools, religious leaders and institutions, lay
people, denominations, public and civic leaders, the press, the
scholarly community, professional organizations and a wide group
of Seminary supporters such as alumni/ae, lay learners, and
potential funders – we must stretch our scholarship in new
directions to keep it ahead of the curve.
Locally, we
present a variety of short-term courses, workshops, lectures and
activities for the general public, and consider this service
essential to our mission to inform the public.
