Giving money to Hartford Seminary is an investment - an investment in strengthening your faith community, your local community and the world.  Hartford Seminary makes a difference – in your life, in the lives of your colleagues and in the world around you. Giving to Hartford Seminary

§ No other Seminary is like us. Ours is a unique commitment to theological education:

§ We educate religious leaders for dialogue and effective service in a multi-faith world.

§ We model faithful living, as a Christian institution that practices hospitality to other faiths.

§ We offer texts by our faculty that are standards in classroom instruction across the country.

§ We are a hub for international research in interfaith relations, educating international students and scholars to become authorities in their fields.

§ We are a resource for theological education – in interfaith engagement, congregational studies and theology and ethics.

What is the benefit of a Hartford Seminary education? Here are just a few examples:

Dr. Ian Markham, Hartford Seminary Dean§ Congregations and their pastors turn to us as the experts in congregational studies.

§ The U.S. military has sought us out to trains Muslims to serve as chaplains in the armed forces.

§ Lay leaders turn to us for an education that helps them become leaders in their communities.

Another Kind of Seminary

Usually, people think of a seminary as a place to study for the ministry. But that’s not us. Rather, neighbors and business colleagues, spiritual seekers and community leaders, all are equally at home here as clergy and laity.

Hartford Seminary is non-denominational; we focus on preparing students to understand and live faithfully in today’s multi-faith and pluralistic world while seeking fresh ways of relating faith, practice and reason to modern life.

Educating Mind, Heart and Spirit for Life

Education at Hartford Seminary prepares students for life-long learning so that once they are done with courses or degrees here, they will have the tools and experiences to continue to learn and act effectively in the world and in their faith community.

A Resource for the Nation and Beyond

Hartford Seminary faculty regularly publish works of significance. They are known nationally and internationally for their research and writing.

Our Hartford Institute for Religion Research enjoys a long-standing national reputation for excellence and innovation in the study of religion, particularly congregational studies.

We also have long enjoyed a significant international reputation through the work of the Macdonald Center for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations and its editing of The Muslim World journal.

A Special Responsibility Hartford Seminary student

Our influence is a special responsibility for us. Understanding that our constituency is unusually broad – since it includes students from other schools, religious leaders and institutions, lay people, denominations, public and civic leaders, the press, the scholarly community, professional organizations and a wide group of Seminary supporters such as alumni/ae, lay learners, and potential funders – we must stretch our scholarship in new directions to keep it ahead of the curve.

Locally, we present a variety of short-term courses, workshops, lectures and activities for the general public, and consider this service essential to our mission to inform the public.
